Deborah Eddy
Owner & BreederMy name is Deborah Eddy and I am the face behind Margembie Labradors. I am a wife and a mother to 3 young energetic boys. We are lucky enough to live on acreage with plenty of room for our boys and dogs to run around on. Our puppies are raised in a family environment and are well socialised before their adoption.
I started breeding Labrador Retrievers because I fell in love with the breed after adopting my very first Labrador in 2002, and have now been breeding them for well over 15 years. I don't breed, just to breed dogs and sell puppies. Each litter is planned in advance and parents are chosen to produce puppies with sound temperaments and genetics and either to improve or complement our lines for the next generation of our breeding program. I am extremely passionate about the bred and love nothing more than to help complete families with their perfect fur baby.
2002
My love affair with Labrador Retrievers started in 2002 when I adopted my beautiful Yellow girl 'Gemma'.
Like many young couples, my then-boyfriend (now husband) Mark and I adopted Gemma, our test baby, to start our lives together.
Although I was a first time Lab owner, I have been around dogs my whole life, growing up with both small and large breeds. Labradors aren't just 'dogs' they quickly become a member of your family and it didn't take me long to realise that I had found the breed that I couldn't live without.
Sadly, Gemma crossed the rainbow bridge in August 2016, 2 weeks shy of her 14th birthday.
We were absolutely devastated to lose her, but are thankful she lives on through our breeding, and a little bit of her personality shines through in her progeny.
2004
Breeding was never on my agenda when we first adopted Gemma, in fact, it never even crossed my mind.
The reason I chose to adopt a pedigree dog was not to breed, it was because I knew the importance of knowing where my dog has come from, knowing their health history, knowing their temperament is true to type, and most importantly knowing that our Labrador came from an ethical breeder who cared about the wellbeing of both mother and puppies.
We decided to breed Gemma in 2004 because we loved her temperament and wanted another lab just like her. I was lucky enough to come from a family of breeders (mum and sister) so after speaking to them and gaining knowledge about breeding I joined Dogs Victoria, sat my prefix exam, and applied for my prefix. What started out as a hobby quickly turned into a passion. I am a huge advocate for responsible breeding and have a thirst for educating myself about every aspect of the bred and to share my knowledge with anyone who will listen.
Our prefix 'MARGEMBIE' was derived from a portion of all of our names. MAR - from Mark GEM - from Gemma BIE - from Debbie Together we are MAR-GEM-BIE
